5 Reasons: Why you should eat breakfast every morning

The name ‘Breakfast’ is said to come from the phrase  ‘Breaking The Fast’. It means it is the first meal that breaks the 8 hours of night time fasting. 

Not everyone likes to have breakfast and there are a variety of reasons for skipping breakfast like

-I am on the diet

-I am busy

-I would like to sleep a few more minutes rather than having breakfast 

-I have no habit of eating breakfast at all and so on.

But it is really important to eat breakfast regularly. You will know the reasons at the end of the article. And so let’s start.

  • Fuel the tank

During your sleep, the body uses glycogen (a storage form of glucose) for its vital function. So the body is weak when you wake up. Having breakfast fills the energy that has been utilized the whole night.

So breakfast eaters can work more energetically and  freshly compared to non-eaters.

  • Healthy brain

Brain is the most energy consuming organ in the body. The whole night energy usage during sleep makes your body weak in the morning. So the brain becomes very hungry in the morning.

The hungry brain cannot concentrate on anything so the ones who do not have breakfast often complain that they become sluggish in the morning. On the other hand, breakfast eater’s brain is full of energy that can create good ideas.

  • Reduce the risk of diabetes

The morning is when your body is most insulin-sensitive meaning the body can use blood sugar more effectively. Having breakfast can control blood sugar fluctuations. Moreover, it can prevent overeating during lunch and dinner thus reducing risk of type 2 diabetes.

  • Healthy heart

Breakfast with lots of vegetables and fiber-filled carbs are ideal food for the heart. They can reduce the bad cholesterol in the blood and make the vessels healthy. That’s why breakfast can make your heart healthy.

  • Maintain your body weight

Some researches say that people who regularly eat breakfast are less likely to be overweight or obese. The reasons are still not sure but it might be due to the facts that

it prevents large fluctuations in your blood glucose levels, helping you to control your appetite

-breakfast fills you up before you become really hungry, so you’re less likely to just grab whatever foods are nearby when hunger really strikes (for example high energy, high fat foods with added sugars or salt).

Kids need breakfast, too

Parents are struggling to feed their kids every morning and most of the kids do not like to have breakfast. But they need to have breakfast more than the adults. Their growing brain and body need lots of energy and it comes mostly from breakfast.

Kids who skip breakfast in the morning find difficulty in concentrating at school. And the kids who do not have breakfast regularly are more likely to be overweight  or obese in the future.

Essential nutrients for breakfast

 

Having breakfast regularly is important but what stands first is the “Nutrients”. Although you are eating breakfast every morning but with junk foods, it can only make your health worse. 

 

Generally your ideal breakfast should include whole grains, fiber-filled carbs and vitamins and minerals rich fruits and vegetables.

 

Let me share some examples for Myanmar breakfast.

-Fried rice with peas and egg

-Porridge with meat and some vegetables

-Noodles/ vermicelli salad with add on vegetables like cabbages, bean sprouts

-Oatmeal and milk

-Rice and curry (if you have already cooked for your lunch)

 

So the best advice is to spare some time for eating breakfast in the morning. Having breakfast every morning is a way of maintaining good health.
